Bird Records officially launches

Here’s our official press release for Bird Records!

Local Music School Announces New Venture
Bird School of Music launches record label and releases their first artist

SAN FRANCISCO, California, December 4, 2014 – Approaching ten years of business, Bird School of Music on Polk St. in San Francisco recently launched Bird Records, LLC. This philanthropy-based record label donates all proceeds from recordings to charities chosen by the artists. Bird’s first artist releases her new music for CURE on January 27th, 2014.

Caelyn Dovey, a senior at University High School, will be donating 100% of the proceeds from sales of her music to CURE Childhood Cancer nonprofit cancer research foundation. Through research, education and unwavering dedication, CURE works fervently to combat the most aggressive types of pediatric cancers.

“About a year and a half ago, I read about a boy named Zach Sobiech. He died of a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma at 18 years old. I was inspired and touched by his story, which described the way he started writing music after his diagnosis as a coping mechanism. I immediately felt a connection,” said Caelyn.

Caelyn began her musical journey at Bird with guitar and voice lessons at age thirteen. Now at seventeen she is writing and recording pop songs.

Bird School of Music and Bird Records Founder, Lane Murchison said: “Our student population is growing up and many of them are staying in music. We’ve taught some of these kids since they were three years old – Now we’re seeing them writing their own music, playing clubs and touring.”

Bird is a music school, a recording label, and a private showcase performance venue. At Bird, music and technology come together in a positive and safe environment. Students are encouraged to use what’s current to enhance their creative musical ideas. Bird emphasizes technique and exposure to all genres of music, enabling musicians to build on familiar ideas to produce something unique. Bird is music, community and technology.
